Our Founder
Harmonie Coleman
Founder & Principal Designer
Harmonie is a cultural worker cultivating collective learning, joy, and justice. She specializes in coalition building, participatory research, healing-centered practice, program strategy, and workshop design and facilitation.
Harmonie thrives in community, finding purpose and excitement in building relationships, fostering culture, and bridging the gap between divergent perspectives. She believes joy and justice are interdependent, and regularly employs music, art, and humor to center individual and collective well-being while dismantling oppressive systems. Her past experience as a teacher both deepen her expertise and ground her work; she continues to be an ardent advocate for Ethnic Studies education and equitable, holistic mental health treatment for young people. Since leaving the classroom, Harmonie has focused on designing and implementing programs that not only engage youth but also build long-term relationships with their families and communities. At IDEO.org, she led community engagement and equitable design research practices, and served as the firm's inaugural community designer.
Harmonie holds a B.A. in Psychology and Race & Difference Studies from Emory University and a M.Ed. in Teaching and Curriculum from Harvard Graduate School of Education. She's also a proud board member of nonprofit organizations Justice for Black Girls and Association to Benefit Children. In her free time, you can find her curating the perfect playlist, frolicking in nature, or reading the latest N.K. Jemisin novel.
